History: Born in Invoria in a small village on the cusp of the Dark Woods. While the woods held fear for most, it was a place she'd grown accustomed to in her childhood. She'd played in it, oblivious to the reality of the stories spoken in hushed tones around the hearth. There'd been a man who'd lived deep in the woods, and Kara had come across him during her youthful explorations. He was a solitary hermit, or so he said. But the things he knew amazed her. The marks of every beast that made one and how it thought. Berries that one could eat that looked identical to ones that could kill with the smallest dose. The names and uses of plants. How to move as quiet as the wind and make the least amount of a mark of one's own presence. He was a veritable font of information that she was greedy to learn.

Perhaps it was because he was so lonely, or maybe he felt his years coming to an end, but he imparted all his worldly knowledge to her with the patience of a saint. Her mother had worried about her heading into the woods on her own at first, but when she continued to come out unscathed and sometimes laden with provisions she could use, she stopped worrying.

Over the years, Kara learned all the man she'd met, Gendrik, had to offer. She could lay traps that the keenest eye could not see. She could even concoct poisons and exploding traps on her own. She could aim true with her bow, hitting her mark with an expert eye. Her aim was just as good with a set of small throwing knives he had. Her loyalty to Gendrik was unbreakable. It was with a heavy heart that she came by his home one winter morning to find she couldn't wake him. She spent the day digging his grave; earth hardened by the winter chill, a chill she didn't feel that day. She laid him to rest, then decided to move into his home and claim it as her own.

Without telling her mother anything more than, "I'm leaving. Much love," she packed up what little she had at what had felt less and less like her home through the years and took up residence at Gendrik's small cottage; built into the landscape around it to be less obvious to any passerby. She took the last name 'Blackthorn' in honor of the favored wood used by her teacher, particularly to make the bow she carried across her back at all times.
Personality: Kara has grown to be solitary, much as her mentor had been. She dallies in town when she needs to to sell game, furs, or a few of her concoctions to get herself things one can't pluck from the forest floor. She can be jovial and charming when she wants to be, but her wanting to is the key. When she's feeling the need for human contact, she'll generally make her way into a town and settle in the corner of an inn and just watch the patrons. She sells her skills as a tracker and guide, which has her coming into town on occasion to see if she's needed. She's not quite as used to solitude as Gendrik was, so she finds herself 'needing' to come into town more often than she likely has to. She's somewhat neutral in the morality department, though she'd likely lean more towards 'good' than 'evil'. She wouldn't purposefully harm someone for no reason, but she's not going to stand still if someone tries to do her harm. She has respect for the woods and what it can provide for those who need it. She doesn't take more than she needs, and she won't kill a creature 'just because' or for sport.
Your Goals for Your Character: Have her not turn into a hermit. Get her involved in caring about more than just her woods.
